Yazoo City's clerks manage a fuller court lineup than most Delta neighbors. The Circuit Clerk files felony and major civil cases, County Court takes mid-sized suits and youth matters, and the Chancery Clerk keeps divorces, estates, guardianships, and land disputes. Justice Court splits tickets and small claims between two districts. A citation from inside Yazoo City belongs to the municipal court. Name the bench before searching anything. Then a Yazoo County court docket request comes down to a case number, or a full name with the year the case began.

Yazoo County Docket Routing

Yazoo County splits its clerk duties across several offices. Robert Coleman, the Circuit Clerk, handles both Circuit and County Court dockets. April Adams Jones, the Chancery Clerk, keeps the Chancery files and the recording records. Justice Court has its own clerk. Yazoo City Municipal Court keeps city-limit traffic and misdemeanor files. One wrong call can stall a Yazoo County docket search, and the mix-ups are common. A city ticket and a county-road citation often look alike on paper. They sit in different courts with different clerks.

Court Dockets: What They Show

Think of a docket sheet as the case's chronological index, not the whole court file. A typical Yazoo County docket line carries a lot. It shows the court, the case number, the filing date, the parties or attorneys where public, the event title, a document number or link, the setting date, the judge, the disposition, and cost information. There is a catch. A line can show that an order was filed. The signed order itself can stay unavailable remotely. When the outcome or the relief matters, read the actual order.

Case numberIdentifies the court file; retain punctuation and filing year when possible.
Entry and event dateShows what was filed or set and when the docket recorded it.
Parties and attorneysHelps distinguish cases with similar names, subject to privacy limits.
SettingCan identify a date, hearing type, judge, or location when published.
Status or dispositionRequires the supporting order before treating a matter as finally resolved.

Yazoo County Docket Flags

The public MEC Court Information page posts local vocabulary. It offers no public case-query form. Codes worth knowing include Arraignment Pending, Trial Pending, Nolle Pros Pending, Probation, and Sealed_Case. Treat each as a status clue only. None of them is a result, and none replaces the operative filing or order.

CLOSED
A local status saying the case is closed; check the final judgment or dismissal entry for the reason.
Nolle Pros Pending
Indicates that a nolle prosequi action is pending, not that a final dismissal has already been entered.
BOUND OVER
Signals that a lower-court preliminary matter moved toward a higher court.
SEALED
Warns that a docket or document may have restricted public access.

Give older files extra patience. Yazoo Circuit and Yazoo County Court went live on MEC on February 25, 2019. An empty search result for an older matter may simply mean the clerk holds it on paper, so call the office instead of retrying the same electronic search.

Yazoo County Courts and Their Dockets

The Yazoo County courts directory sorts the dockets by subject matter. Circuit Court is the general criminal and civil lane. County Court carries its own jurisdiction plus the juvenile role. Chancery covers equity, property, domestic relations, estates, and guardianships. Justice Court holds the county traffic and misdemeanor channels. Youth Court records are sensitive and tightly restricted. Municipal Court stays limited to Yazoo City matters, and each of these courts generates its own kind of court record.

Appeals open a separate docket entirely. The originating clerk keeps the trial-level file, while a state appeal can move up to the Mississippi Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court of Mississippi. Federal civil, criminal, and bankruptcy cases never appear on a state-court docket. For federal matters, Yazoo County falls inside the Southern District of Mississippi, Jackson/Northern Division.

MEC and Yazoo County Dockets

Mississippi Electronic Courts, or MEC, is the filing and case-management system. It runs the participating electronic courts. PAMEC is its public, read-only layer. The Court Information profile lists Yazoo Circuit and Yazoo County Court as participating courts. It does not list Chancery, Justice, Youth, or Yazoo City Municipal Court as public PAMEC locations. Never assume one search covers all. An account does not reach every Yazoo County docket.

The fees are specific. Registration costs $10 per year for an Attorney or Non-Attorney account. Every search result page runs $0.20. A search with no matches can still generate a one-page charge. Registration walks you through Attorney, Non-Attorney, and Firm Administrator account types. That includes the terms agreement and payment selection. The public pages never show the authenticated case-search field order. Gather the case number and the court name before you log in.

Court Dates and Settings in Yazoo County

A term calendar and a case setting are not the same thing. The 2026 Circuit Court terms calendar shows Yazoo terms starting the third Monday of March, the first Monday of August, and the fourth Monday of November. Each runs four weeks with Grand Jury. Those blocks describe the court year. They promise nothing about when an individual case gets heard.

Start with the citation, summons, bond, or notice sent to the party. Then check the docket setting and the matching calendar. Is a date missing, changed, or urgent? Confirm it with the court that owns the case. Municipal matters run on their own Wednesday court pattern. A Justice, Chancery, County, or Circuit setting is different. It needs confirmation through its own office. The Yazoo County Court Schedule walks through the date-checking sequence in more detail.

Yazoo County Docket Terms

A setting on a Yazoo County docket can take many forms. Arraignment, plea, preliminary hearing, docket call, pretrial, motion hearing, trial, sentencing, or disposition all count. The entry shows an event, not a result. What happened later may never appear on the sheet. If a setting is cancelled or continued, a new entry usually follows. Let the party notice or a clerk confirmation drive any decision to appear. Keep a copy of that notice. Before you go, ask one question. Does the setting sit in Yazoo City, at another circuit-district location, or on a remote proceeding?

Docket Access Under Mississippi Law

Mississippi's broad public-records framework is the Mississippi Public Records Act, Title 25, Chapter 61. It treats public records as public property unless an exemption applies. Exempt material may be redacted. The fee principle is actual cost. A court docket, though, needs a more specific first step. The judiciary is a separate branch of government. That means the court clerk and the court's own access rules govern a request for a docket or filing. The generic county administrative route does not apply.

Key access rules:

Mississippi Code §25-61-5 addresses inspection, copying, written delay or denial, and redaction for public bodies covered by the Act.

Mississippi Code §25-61-7 uses a reasonably calculated actual-cost fee principle.

Mississippi Code §§25-61-10 and 25-61-11 address electronic format and information confidential under another law or rule.

Mississippi Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 5.1 ties electronic filing and storage to MEC privacy provisions.

The MEC privacy policy spells out that judiciary distinction. If the clerk denies a request, ask for the legal basis and whether a redacted docket sheet or document can be released instead.

Yazoo County Docket Privacy

Public access stops at certain lines. MEC procedures block remote documents in many cases. Think family, custody, support, divorce, guardianship, conservatorship, protection-from-abuse, debt, and similar matters. A nonparty may see the docket sheet while the document image stays unavailable. Access at the clerk's counter can differ, subject to the court, the rule, and any protective order. Youth Court files are another world. Abuse, neglect, delinquency, truancy, CHINS, and juvenile-intervention cases are not open to ordinary public name searches. Redaction rules also shield Social Security numbers. Dates of birth, minor names, financial-account numbers, and certain home-address details are shielded too. When you see a SEALED, EXPUNGED, or Minor_Child marker on a docket, treat it as an access warning.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

Start with the Circuit Clerk for Yazoo Circuit and County Court papers. That office holds pleadings, indictments, civil and criminal filings, judgments, executions, and related case records. It runs jury administration too. Chancery Court matters belong to the separate Chancery Clerk. Justice Court and municipal records sit with their own court staff. One caution on copies. A docket printout is not a certified copy, and neither is a full case file or transcript.

Circuit Clerk office information

Give the clerk the court, the case number, and the document title. Give the date too, if you know it. Ask two things up front. Is the item public, and do you need a plain or a certified copy? The county forms index publishes no standardized court-copy request form, so confirm the accepted request channel, the fee, payment instructions, and any access limits before sending anything.

Yazoo County Docket Files

The clerk's counter still matters. Pre-MEC paper records, restricted documents, and questions a public interface cannot answer all lead back to that desk. MEC procedures allow public electronic access at a clerk's office during regular business hours. This holds even when remote access is restricted. The clerk posts no public-terminal schedule or current fee sheet, so call the right office before traveling or mailing payment. The same split applies in Chancery. The Chancery Clerk keeps domestic, probate, guardianship, equity, and land-related court files. It also records deeds, mortgages, liens, and lis pendens. Remember that a recorded-instrument search is not the same as a Chancery civil docket search.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Yazoo County

Yazoo County has four incorporated places, not five. They are Yazoo City, Bentonia, Eden, and Satartia. Only Yazoo City posts an official municipal-court information page. For the smaller places, route by citation location and issuing agency rather than assuming a separate public court database exists. And remember the county-level courts. A Justice, Circuit, County, or Chancery record can still be the correct file for a matter tied to any of these towns.

Yazoo City Court Records

2020 Census population 10,316. Municipal Court handles city-limit traffic and misdemeanor matters.

Yazoo County Federal Dockets

Federal cases run on a separate track. The Southern District divisional listing places Yazoo County in the Jackson/Northern Division. PACER serves as the official federal reader service, while CM/ECF handles federal filing. When you know the court, use the Southern District. When you don't, start with the federal Case Locator. Never send a state Circuit Court question to PACER. The Southern District home page marks the court's public federal records route.

Map and Directions to the Yazoo County Circuit Clerk's Office

Circuit Court and County Court felony, general civil, juvenile, and indictment filings are kept at the Circuit Clerk's office, 209 East Broadway Street in Yazoo City, the county seat. Yazoo's court offices are not consolidated in one traditional courthouse building: the Chancery Clerk keeps a separate office nearby at 211 East Broadway Street for divorce, estate, guardianship, and land-related matters, and Yazoo City Municipal Court sits at the Police Department, 305 Mike Espy Drive, rather than at either Broadway Street office.

Get driving directions

The county has not published a public-terminal schedule, security-screening policy, or parking information for the Circuit Clerk's office, so call ahead of a visit. MEC procedures allow public electronic access at the clerk's counter during regular business hours even when remote viewing of a case is restricted, so an in-person stop can still turn up a record that isn't visible online.
